The Parapara Detectives
School Journal Level 3, October 2013
WALT explore a problem and the arguments for and against different solutions.
- Choose 10 interesting or tricky words from the text and complete the vocabulary activity.
- Answer the comprehension questions in full sentences using the text.
- CREATE a poster warning people about the dangers of the Parapara Tree to birds using Google Drawing. Share this on your blog.
- Record yourself reading a page of the text. Share this reading video on your class blog.
Week 2 - Share your learning!
Create a poster using google drawing and share it on your blog:
- Share three interesting facts about the Parapara Tree.
- Share 5 new interesting or tricky words you have learnt and their meaning.
- What do you think the right solution is to the 'Parapara Tree' problem?
- Remember to embed your reading video on your blog post.

WALT understand different kinds of severe weather.
WALT think critically about some of the effects that different weather patterns can have.
- Read the text independently and with a buddy.
- Copy the google doc, name it and file it in your reading folder.
- Find 10 interesting or tricky words from the text. Find out what each word means using the glossary or a dictionary.
- Choose one of the subheadings in your text. Summarise the information in your own words - one paragraph.

t3 Week 5 - mango reading activities

WALT build our vocabulary by finding out the meaning of interesting and tricky words in the text.
- Choose interesting and tricky words from the text.
- Write these words on your sticky notes.
- Choose 10 - 20 words on your lists and make a glossary for the text on google docs using the google dictionary.
- Remember to name it and file it in your reading folder.
- Copy the link into our Te Manga 2019 - Class Work spreadsheet once you have finished.
