Pāpāmoa College has a junior and a senior kapahaka group. The junior group includes year 7 and 8 students., and the senior group includes years 9 to 13. All students are expected to participate in kapahaka. It is a significantly important element of being in Te Pākura.
The Mataaatua Regional Manu Kōrero speech competition is essential to the growth of Te Reo and Tikanga māōri within our school. This event practices both contemporary and traditional forms of whaikōrero (oratory), and aims to grow the level of spoken language within the Mataatua region. Schools involved in this event stretch from Ngā Kuri a Wharei (Bowen Town) to Tihirau (East Coast).
Hui Whakangahau is a Secondary School Kapahaka competition for all non-competitive schools in the Tauranga Moana area. The purpose of this event is to build confidence and capability in our kura with the goal of elevating the level and number of performers partaking in Kapahaka. Schools involved in this event are Mount Maunganui College, Aquinas College, Matapihi School, Pāpāmoa College, Tauranga Boys’ and Girls’ College, Te Wharekura o Mauao, and Otumoetai College.
Whakamana is a time for Te Pākura students to come together as a whānau and practice tikanga, speak te reo māori, and acknowledge student achievement. The purpose of whakamana is to build whanaungatanga amongst all the age groups. Whakamana occurs once a week during our te reo māori class.
