This year we entered three senior volleyball teams. Our Girls who entered two teams , started training early on with the help our student coach/player Foketi and the results are starting to pay off, as both teams and competing for the top 6 in the playoff round. Our boys have a strong competition but have gained some important wins which will see them through to the playoff round of their competition as well.

Our Girls will take a team to the Auckland Volleyball Championships March 8.

Pre-season has been underway and there is plenty of promise from our students. This year should be an exciting season ahead. Our 1st XV registered their first pre-season game against our old boys, and with a lot of mana on the line it was a game of four quarters. The Old Boys scored very quickly into the game and from there onwards it was a try for try battle. 1st XV Captain Natui Sua said he enjoyed the game whilst playing against the old boys made him gain a better understanding of the history behind the jersey & team. 1st XV won the game with 6 tries to 5. Young guns and brothers Billy and Sione Tomu showing their speed with 5 tries between them. Coach Chris Rumbal hopes this can be continued and help grow the game of rugby at Papakura High School.

Pre-season started early with the drive of Coach/Trainer Jason Ahuriri leading the charge. According to college sport Basketball is now the most participated sport in New Zealand (overtaking rugby). There are exciting times ahead for basketball. Watch this space
