The last concert in Tina Turner’s impressively lengthy career took place in 2009, at the Sheffield Arena, and she was 69 at the time. This gig was part of her 50th anniversary tour and marked her retirement from the stage. It was, by all accounts, an amazing performance. Did Ike and Tina ever reconcile?

In a 2018 interview with The Times, Tina Turner opened up about her relationship with ex-husband Ike Turner and her decision to forgive him, in spite of the years of physical and mental abuse, not to mention the extra-marital affairs. She was only 16 when Ike Turner asked her to join the band and it didn’t take long before he began seducing the teenage singer; she felt as if she had no choice because she “needed the work”. After their divorce was finalized in 1976, it would still take decades for Tina to forgive Ike. The two would never collaborate again. In her own words, “Ike wasn’t someone you could forgive and allow him back in.”


Is Ike Turner still alive?

Ike Turner passed away on December 12, 2007, from a cocaine overdose, at the age of 76. He was suffering from high blood pressure and emphysema, which likely contributed to his death. Ike had been addicted to cocaine for over 15 years and served 18 months in jail for drug related offenses. He kept clean after his release from jail in 1991 until 2004, when he relapsed, culminating with his overdose in 2007. Tina Turner did not attend his funeral.
