Music Skills in a Music Style (Beats Recreation Task)

In this achievement standard, you'll get to explore and show off your music skills in a specific style of music. Think of it like becoming a music detective, where you'll learn to identify different music skills and use them in a way that fits the style of music you're working with.

Whether it's playing an instrument, understanding music theory, or training your ears to catch every note and rhythm, you'll be applying all these cool skills.

The most exciting part? You need to use your listening skills, also known as aural skills, to really shine in this standard. It's all about using what you've learned in music to create something that sounds just right for the style you've chosen!

Preparing for the Assessment

Practice Activity: GTA San Andreas Theme

For this standard, you will learn all the skills to figure out a song by ear.

To give you some tools and teach you how to do this in a DAW (Garage Band) follow these videos. The first one shows you how to find the tempo of the track and program drums into your DAW software.

2. Key & Bassline:

In this video, you will figure out which notes are used in the piece by finding the root note and determining if it is in a major or minor key.

After this, you will know which notes (major or minor scale) are needed to figure out all the other parts of the song, starting with the bass line.

3. Riffs

In this video you will learn how to identify and learn to play the notes used in specific riffs in the song.

4. Percussion & Chords

In this video we will discuss how to select percussion and find the right sounds for your song. You will also learn how to build chords using the notes in the scale.

5. Melody

In this video, we will use the skills we learned and the G minor scale to figure out the main melody.

6. Assessment
