Blood and Guts
The Blood and Guts unit covers the Circulatory system and the Digestive system. We will explore the heart, the different components of blood, and the purpose of the lungs. We will identify the organs of the digestive system and their different functions as well as heath concerns linked to poor diet and lack of exercise.
MRS GREN
These 7 key processes are necessary for all living things. The way different groups of organisms do these or the structures and behaviours involved may be different but they all meet these seven requirements for a living organism to survive.
Systems of the Human Body
There are a number of different systems in the human body that work together to execute the seven key Life Processes. Explore the interactive activity below to learn more about these different systems.
Movement
To be successful an organism must be able to move to find food, mates, and habitats to survive. Plants may do this in more subtle ways but they do move towards resources to improve their survival.
Reproduction
For survival of a species reproduction must take place - either sexual or asexually.
Sensitivity
While obvious to see in animals, plants are also sensitive to their environment and move towards or away from stimulus as seen in the video above.
Growth
Plants and Animals continue to grow by producing new cells and replacing old and damaged ones throughout their lives.
Respiration
The ability to convert Glucose to Energy in the presence of Oxygen which requires an efficient gas exchange system.
Excretion
There are several Organ Systems involved in the removal of waste products from an organism. In Humans, the Respiratory system is responsible for removing carbon dioxide gas using the lungs, the Digestive system removes solid waste products of digestion, the Urinary system is responsible for removing urea, salts, and excess water from the blood while the Integumentary System removes water, salts, and other wastes through sweat glands in the skin
Nutrition
Nutrition can involve different sources of food, but the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth is universal
