This pupil portal page is to inform you of the learning in Nursery. It is not a place for notices or reminders of dates. Please do check the parent calendar for dates as well as the notice boards outside of Nursery.
We are looking forward to getting to know your children and having a wonderful year full of joy and wonder!
Miss Louise and Miss Alex
Listen to the traditional story of the week. Ask your child to re-tell it in different ways. Can they change the ending or the characters?
Can your child draw the story?
Encourage independent play
Encourage risk-taking and self-challenge
Develop your child's social skills - play dates, with children of all ages
Lots of singing and reading stories
Lots of talking - making statements, asking open questions...I wonder what would happen if...?
Lots of sensory play...be messy!
Plenty of sleep and healthy eating
Encourage self-help skills
Be active as a family
Talk, talk and talk, helping to increase your child's vocabulary
Listen carefully to your child and get down on their level
Don't correct their language - model the correct way to say something
Model good listening to your child - eye-contact, being responsive
Share lots of stories and talk about what happened
Sing songs
Make silly noises - this encourages phonological awareness
Play with language: rhymes (Mind your head Fred, silly billy etc), tongue twisters
Sound talk with your child by being a robot. E.g. You say, 'Put on your h-a-t and the child puts the sounds together and says, 'hat.'
We will introduce a sound each week from phase 2 of Letters and Sounds. Should you need more information please ask.
Enjoy singing the Jolly Phonics songs that go with each sound. We are not teaching children to write the letters, it is all about hearing the sounds.
Here are all of the songs on one video. Please find the one we are learning this week.
