The first oil pipeline in Illinois was built in Crawford County by the Buckeye Pipeline Company in 1905. The pipeline was later bought by the Ohio Oil Company, and by 1924, Crawford County was an important way station for the oil industry in the west. In 1962, the Ohio Oil Company celebrated its 75th anniversary, and renamed the company “Marathon Oil Company.” The Robinson Refinery has had many expansions in its time, and continues to employ many people in Crawford County.
