The Land Office was built in May of 1820 and it was located in LaMotte Township. Many prominent figures in the early history of Illinois were connected with the Palestine Land Office. The Palestine Land Office was discontinued in 1855. The Land Office is connected to many different important people, such as Joseph Kitchell, who was one of the founders of Palestine. Without the Land Office, many of the businesses in Palestine would not have come into existence.
