Pioneer Rodeo
The Pioneer City Rodeo was an idea that came up in 1966 when Chamber of Commerce President Roy Shaner and Palestine citizen Clarence Phillips wanted to do something about the history of Palestine before it was too late. They didn't have enough money for some of the ideas and so they came up with the idea of a rodeo to raise money. In 1967 the first Palestine Pioneer Rodeo was held. The first 2 years of the rodeo they had to hold it on the current Babe Ruth Baseball Field in Leaverton Park. After that, the Chamber of Commerce purchased the land north of the baseball field. They have been having the rodeo there ever since.
