Week beginning - Monday 9th February 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
The last week of term has been a wonderful celebration of learning in Year 1. This week in Phonics, we have been busy recapping upon and consolidating the various digraphs and trigraphs we have been focussing on over the past few weeks. We have been really impressed with the children's ability to identify these sounds in a range of words. In Maths this week, we have continued to work on developing our addition and subtraction skills. The children have become confident at solving a range of these mathematical problems by jumping accurately on a number line. It has also been wonderful to see the children's mathematical vocabulary bank grow with many children using 'more, add, plus, greater, subtract, minus, take-away, less and fewer' when explaining their workings out. Our inquiry into hot and cold regions continued this week. The children enjoyed exploring facts and comparing the weather in The North Pole and The Sahara Desert. In PE this week, we continued to work on Gymnastics. This week we focussed on jumping and landing correctly. The children explored straight jumps and star jumps, taking off from two feet and landing on two feet. As this week is 'Children's Mental Health Week,' the children engaged in a number of activities focussing on a sense of belonging. The children discussed the different places that they feel they belong to including their families, friendship groups, school and clubs. The children were wonderful at describing how belonging to these groups made them feel. The children have all worked extremely hard this term and we are very proud of their achievements. We wish you all an enjoyable and well-deserved break.
