Some interesting findings....

Hello, I'm Ruth! The most interesting thing I learned from Cognitive Psychology class is that there are a lot of crazy myths on the internet about how the mind works!

Hi, I'm Gabe. I was pretty surprised by the findings of my polls. It turned out the majority of the participants think that the myths are false! Fun fact: most people I asked to participate have not completed a single college credit.

Hi, I'm Katelyn! I think the most interesting thing I learned in this class was busting the myths and understanding why we think the way we do. I am able to understand way more about the disinformation and why people are spreading these myths!

Hi, I'm Jonah. The most interesting thing I learned in this class was just how complicated the brain and cognition are, and how many different components come together to allow us to perform complex actions.

How are Myths created and how do we go about busting them?

In today's day and age, the internet makes it extremely easy to spread false information despite the advanced research methods we have. Most people in society tend to share information without finding out its relevance and reliability. Disinformation is a term that defines false, inappropriate, or misleading information intentionally created and promoted to create public harm or earn profit. Misinformation is incorrect or misleading information presented as fact. It is differentiated from disinformation, which is deliberately deceptive. People are advised to take the initiative of finding out the truth of the matter of certain content before posting it on social media. Educating people on the proper way of seeking out the truth is just as important as the research itself.
