Passive vs Active

The active form is created using to have + past participle, it is never formed with to be.

to be + past participle is only used to form the passive (never the active)

The passive form tends to be used: 1) When you are more interested in the person or object that experiences an action than the person or object that performs the action e.g. The New York stock exchange was founded in 1792. 2) When you don’t know or cannot (or don’t want to) express who or what performed the action e.g. Four hundred thousand credit cards are stolen every year. 3) To describe processes e.g. The chemicals are transported by truck and are then delivered to the factory.
