Writing:
A learning tool; a personal and public communication tool; record of thinking
Description: This is one of my many UC application essays that I wrote in AVID. I chose this in particular because this is one of my best representations of a "writing" assignment. It was important to me, as I needed to be able to show the admissions officer about my life in less than 350 words.
Strengths: I feel as I did well in creating a good narrative for the person who is reading it.
Areas for Growth: I feel like I could improve on my grammar, as I don't adhere to grammar rules.
Description: This is one of my internship essays I wrote for the college I'm going to attend. I chose this specifically, as I constantly rewrote this paper many times during class. It's really important to me, as if I make it into the program, I get to be with an advisor for all my 4 years which cam help me get into graduate school.
Strengths: I feel as I did well in creating a story for the person reading to understand who I am as an individual.
Areas for Growth: I really don't know what I could improve on, as I really tried my hardest to make it perfect.
Inquiry:
Uncovering one's understanding; asking critical questions; engages in thinking, learning, and discussion.
Description: These are my notes for my Calculus class that I used for my Focused Notes. I put so much of my time into crafting them into the absolute best that I could ever make, and I'm proud to show this off.
Strengths: I believe that I did well with asking critical questions that related to the subject in Calculus
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on the visual aspect, as it's very simplistic. i could add a more colorful aspect to my notes like graphs, highlights, and equations.
Description: These are my notes for my Calculus class that I used for my Focused Notes. I made another set of notes, as this class almost requires me to do another set of notes.
Strengths: I believe that I did well with showing that I can comprehend the visual representation of the notes, and not just the process.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on the visual aspect, as it's very simplistic. I could add a more colorful aspect to my notes like graphs, highlights, and equations.
Collaboration:
Teamwork with shared responsibility; sharing of ideas; information, and opinions; formal and informal discussions.
Description: This is a Tutorial Request Form or a TRF. This can fit in the categories of Inquiry and Collaboration. In the tutorial, we create an essential question, which overlays our second type of question; initial. Our initial question is or "main" question, as that's what we mainly need help with. After, we identify vocabulary words related to the question. Then, people assigned in your group help you with their knowledge and you do the same for them.
Strengths: I believe that I do well in communicating with the people in the group, as I find it easy to get people to communicate with each other.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on my time-management, as in most situations; I'm not able to get through everyone in my group.
Description: This is a my presentation for Calculus 2; however, me and a couple other friends worked on this assignment during class and now, I'm proud to say that this is my biggest accomplishment. This class was extremely difficult.
Strengths: I believe that I did well in speaking clearly for the audience to hear and understand what I'm trying to display and convey to them.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could have worked on showing the integration steps, as I didn't show that I worked on the solid math parts.
Organization:
Managing materials and practicing methodical study habits, planning and prioritizing school, work, and social task; engaging in mental preparation and goal-setting; strategically and intentionally taking responsibility for one's learning.
Description: This is just one of my planners for my classes at OMC. I thought this would be the perfect fit, as this is how I organize the assignments that I need to complete for that day. It helps me keep track of which assignments that I need to do.
Strengths: I believe that I do well in laying each of my responsibilities in a format that's easy for me to absorb.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on making my planner showcase the different assignments that I need to do.
Description: This is my Post-Baccalaureate form for me to conduct research into what are the best post-baccalaureate programs for Medical School and how to get in.
Strengths: I believe that this form is in a format that is hard to get wrong due to the questions being so simplistic.
Areas for Growth: I don't believe I need to work on anything. It's a form.
Reading:
Strategically gaining meaning, understanding, and knowledge from other media; purpose-driven; interactive.
Description: This is my page of notes regarding the University of California System. This page of notes demonstrates the different questions that I had while researching in September about the aspects of UC admissions.
Strengths: I believe that I did well in reading and laying the information in a readable form.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on my descriptions for each topic, as I don't believe that this is detailed enough.
Description: Even though this may not seem like an AVID related topic, this is important for my future years in my undergraduate program in Biomedical Engineering. This is a comprehensive presentation about where I'm going, and what it entails for me. This involved a lot of reading about my subject.
Strengths: I believe that I did well in showing all that my school and program has to offer.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on making my presentation more interactive, as it doesn't interact with the audience.
