Writing:
A learning tool; a personal and public communication tool; record of thinking.
Description: This is one of my many Math 2 notes used as focused note taking in AVID. I chose this in particular because this is one of my best representations of a "writing" assignment. However, It's important to write every single detail down as, if you leave one article of information out, it stops the flow of the notes.
Strengths: I made and highlighted more solutions, main ideas, and steps in my notebook; making it so that it's easier for other people to see which topics are important to know.
Areas for Growth: I feel that I could improve on my handwriting, as my notes are legible to me, but not to anyone else.
Inquiry:
Uncovering one's understanding; asking critical questions; engages in thinking, learning, and discussion.
Description: This is a Tutorial Request Form or a TRF. This can fit in the categories of Inquiry and Collaboration. In the tutorial, we create an essential question, which overlays our second type of question; initial. Our initial question is our "main" question, as that's what we mainly need help with. After, we identify vocabulary words related to the question. Then, people assigned in your group help you with their knowledge and you do the same for them.
Strengths: I do well in helping create a good format of steps for my whole group during the presentation of the form.
Areas for Growth: I feel that I could improve on my communication, as I either talk too much and it disrupts the tutorial, or I talk too little and it doesn't provide any useful information to benefit them.
Collaboration:
Teamwork with shared responsibility; sharing of ideas; information, and opinions; formal and informal discussions.
Description: This is my group poetry analysis presentation, in which we have a partner that aids in the processing and analysis of a poem of our choosing. I chose this in particular because this perfectly fits into the collaboration category; Teamwork with shared responsibility.
Strengths: I did well in the analysis of the poem, including the theme and poetic devices.
Areas for Growth: I feel that I could improve on the visual aspect of the presentation as I didn't aid with the different visuals of the assignment.
Organization:
Managing materials and practicing methodical study habits, planning and prioritizing school, work, and social task; engaging in mental preparation and goal-setting; strategically and intentionally taking responsibility for one's learning.
Description: This is my SMART goal, a paper that was an assignment last year for AVID, but recently changed so that it could fit my daily use. This helps me follow and track my different goals whether it be academic, community, or personal. I chose this due to it fulfilling the criteria, "engaging in mental preparation and goal-setting".
Strengths: I did well in the base format of the paper; helping me keep track of all my goals and when to achieve them.
Areas for Growth: I feel that I could improve on the steps required to get to my goals, as I don't include any way that I can reach that goal.
Reading:
Strategically gaining meaning, understanding, and knowledge from other media; purpose-driven; interactive.
Description: This is my Case Study from my Public Health Class. In the assignment, we are tasked with reading a persona affected by our topic for that week. The week that I wrote it, our topic was about medical malpractice, and if the physician was at fault. I chose this due to the need for the reading of the case details.
Strengths: I did well in the detailed answers for my summary, including the thinking around the patient-physician interaction.
Areas for Growth: I feel that I could improve on the format of my paper, as it literally looks like numbered points on a page.
