Writing:
A learning tool; a personal and public communication tool; record of thinking
Description: This is one of my many Pre-Calculus notes used as focused note taking in AVID. I chose this in particular because this is one of my best representations of a "writing" assignment. However, It's important to write every single detail down as, if you leave one article of information out, it stops the flow of the notes.
Strengths: I feel as I do well in the organization of my notes, as I could tell what part of the textbook is located in my notebook.
Areas for Growth: I feel like I could improve on my handwriting, as sometimes, I could barely even read my own handwriting. It defeats the purpose of the notes.
Description: This is one of my many Common Application essays written this semester. I chose this in particular because this is one of my best representations of a "writing" assignment. Every aspect of writing is incorporated into the essay, as it's vital to have these essays completed with details and descriptions.
Strengths: I believe that I did well in setting up the overall theme of the essay, as it becomes more apparent when you read through it.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on adding more imagery.
Inquiry:
Uncovering one's understanding; asking critical questions; engages in thinking, learning, and discussion.
Description: This is my Pre-Calculus group project presentation. I chose this in particular because I had to collaborate with my teammates in order to get the project done. If one person on the team decides to put less effort than the others, the whole project becomes hard for everyone to handle.
Strengths: I believe that I did well with cooperating with all of my teammates, as communication wasn't a problem
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on the visual aspect of the presentation, as I left the visuals all to my partners that I'm with. I only did the math section of the project.
Description: This is my Online College Fairs South assignment. I chose this in particular because I had to really think about questions to ask the colleges. I couldn't just ask normal questions either, but questions that seemed personalized to me. Asking these questions helped me get a basic understanding of how the school functions and how it feels.
Strengths: I believe that I did well in asking very detailed questions.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on creating a proper response after they responded to my question.
Collaboration:
Teamwork with shared responsibility; sharing of ideas; information, and opinions; formal and informal discussions.
Description: This is a Tutorial Request Form or a TRF. This can fit in the categories of Inquiry and Collaboration. In the tutorial, we create an essential question, which overlays our second type of question; initial. Our initial question is or "main" question, as that's what we mainly need help with. After, we identify vocabulary words related to the question. Then, people assigned in your group help you with their knowledge and you do the same for them.
Strengths: I believe that I do well in communicating with the people in the group, as I find it easy to get people to communicate with each other.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on my time-management, as in most situations; I'm not able to get through everyone in my group.
Description: This is my TQE that I did about demonstrated interest. We had to take notes in the beginning, then bring them to class to get ready to share with others. After we shared all of our questions, thoughts, and epiphanies, we went and gathered our favorite two lines and put them on whiteboards for the class to see.
Strengths: I believe that I did a good job with categorizing each line as a question, thought, and epiphany.
Areas for Growth: I believed that I could have added more detail into the lines.
Organization:
Managing materials and practicing methodical study habits, planning and prioritizing school, work, and social task; engaging in mental preparation and goal-setting; strategically and intentionally taking responsibility for one's learning.
Description: This is just one of my planners for my classes at OMC. I thought this would be the perfect fit, as this is how I organize the assignments that I need to complete for that day. It helps me keep track of which assignments that I need to do.
Strengths: I believe that I do well in laying each of my responsibilities in a format that's easy for me to absorb.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on making my planner visually pleasing.
Description: This is my college research form. I though this would be the perfect fit, as I had to organize all of my colleges that I have researched in to one spreadsheet. This helps me keep track of what schools I want to go to in the future.
Strengths: I believe that I did well in color-coding every school to see if it's a reach, match, or a safety.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on removing all of the unnecessary categories such as what time I researched it, and what was the email address that I used.
Reading:
Strategically gaining meaning, understanding, and knowledge from other media; purpose-driven; interactive.
Description: This is my History Paper from my U.S History class. In this assignment, we needed to read multiple documents of the time period, in which we then needed to condense the information into a 750-1000 word paper.
Strengths: I believe that I did well in reading and analyzing the information, as I included most information about the chapter in my papers.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could work on my Chicago formatting, as I didn't have practice with Chicago formatting before I took History of the U.S.
Description: This is the website that I had to read and analyze for my assignment: State Funding for College. In this assignment, we were to go to this website, and learn about the different ways that I can help get my college paid for. I found out that I qualify for the CalVet grant due to my family's service in the military.
Strengths: I believe that I did well in reading and analyzing the information, and including which scholarships I can qualify for.
Areas for Growth: I believe that I could have researched more into what grants would fit my future profession.
