Students in all sections at the middle school had been preparing for their choral performances in the Spring Arts Festival. They performed on the risers inside of the Music room for the school and their families using zoom. In the pictures shown above, you will see that some of our students in section 803 took it upon themselves to create choreography for the class. While I sat at the piano, ready to play when it was helpful, Eli Morales and Gigi Belem taught the dance moves to the class. The end result not only showed off their musical talent and their ability to move their bodies to the Music, but it also showed an amazing display of leadership and cooperation between all of the students in the class.
Learner Profile
ATL Skills
Students in the 6th grade have begun to learn about Music Theory, including topics in rhythm, notation, and basic concepts of musical structure. This lays the groundwork for a deeper understanding of how music is created. Through counting the beat and identifying notes on the treble and bass clef, the students begin to recognize patterns in music and how these elements work together to create different moods and styles.

Schoolhouse Rock
Students in the seventh grade started the quarter by learning about song structure. By listening to many musical examples in class, students had to pick apart the verses, choruses, bridges, and varied choruses that they heard by writing inside of their music journals. They were then quizzed on their ability to label these sections. Students were also introduced to the series of educational cartoons called Schoolhouse Rock and worked collaboratively in order to identify these sections within the cartoons. This was in preparation for their project where students were responsible for writing lyrics to a song on an educational topic while adhering to the song structure guidelines.

I am thinking about all the fun seasons
In the fall all the fruits are sweeten
Summer is a time of tanning and beaches
Spring with the all the different fruit like peaches
Because of seasons
Please remember the happy feeling of cold winter
Because of seasons
When it's winter and fall, zip up that zipper
Because of seasons
Summer vibing all day long and spring feeling the rain
Because of seasons
Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring makes up a long long train
What else can we do when its pouring
Let's not try to make this really boring
The sun finally came out now it's time to get out
Time to go out and have fun with no doubt
Now shout loud
Because of weather
So stand up and shout for all that shimmery white snow
Now snows here bring cheer
Snows here put on your gear and watch out for those snowballs
bring on the harsh wind
Wind pushing us here and there there’s so much everywhere
Blow ,hot, freeze, change
Now see what's different between season and weather
