Class Description
Welcome to 6th Grade Film!
In this exciting and creative course, students will explore the world of animation and digital advertising. Through hands-on projects, students will learn how to bring stories and ideas to life using animation, stop-motion, and short video ads. They’ll develop skills in storyboarding, character design, visual storytelling, and editing, while learning how media influences audiences.
Students will work both individually and in teams to design original advertisements and short animated pieces that combine creativity, communication, and media production. By the end of the course, each student will understand how animation and advertising work together to share powerful messages and ideas.
Required Supplies
To be prepared for class and production days, students should bring:
A folder or binder for storyboards, sketches, and notes
Headphones (for editing and reviewing audio)
Pencil and pen for planning and brainstorming
USB drive or cloud storage access (for saving animation files)
A positive attitude and imagination!
All animation and editing tools, cameras, and materials will be provided in class.

Curriculum Units
Our curriculum introduces students to the fundamentals of media creation and storytelling through engaging animation and advertisement projects:
Introduction to Media & Animation Basics
Understanding visual storytelling, animation principles, and creative thinking
Advertising and Persuasion
Exploring how ads use ethos, pathos, and logos to influence audiences
Storyboard and Character Design
Creating storyboards, characters, and concepts for animated projects
Stop-Motion and Digital Animation
Planning and producing short animated advertisements
Editing and Post-Production
Using editing tools to add sound, effects, and polish to final projects
Grading Policy
Students will be graded based on the following criteria:
Classwork: 40%
Assessments/Projects: 40%
Reflection & Participation: 20%
All work is graded using a combination of IB-style rubrics and creative performance standards. Late work may receive partial credit unless prior arrangements are made.
