Class Description
The sixth grade art program transitions students from their elementary art program to an expanded curriculum in which they will become more technically proficient and intentional in their approach to art. All sixth grade students will learn the basic skills of drawing from observation and creative exploration using graphite and oil pastels. Throughout the course, the students will be exposed to drawing techniques that will help them to see accurately and directly, breaking away from relying only on their visual memory.
Students will also explore varied possibilities in design and three-dimensional form. Emphasis will be placed on experimentation, risk-taking, and making choices based upon research, introspection, and observation. Students will also be encouraged to actively think about how art shapes society and provides a means for self-expression.
