Activity 1

Design and make witch or wizard hat

5-7 Years Old: Design a witch or wizards hat

First design your hat using the template then watch the video how to make it.

Resources: template and design sheet in drive, black card, craft materials (scissors/ glitter/ tape etc.)

7-11 Years Old: Make an origami witch or wizard hat

Watch the video on how to fold card so it looks like a witch or wizard's hat.

Potion Lab

Nursery and 5-7 Years Old: Rescue Wilbur

Make a potion to rescue Wilbur (from Winnie the Witch) and turn him back black- what ingredients could you use? What things are black? Use vocabulary such as empty, half full, nearly full and full.

Resources: if possible, allow children to use food-colouring/ glitter in water/ cooking oil and measuring jugs to measure their own potions.

Resources: potion writing frames, potion labels, example potion.

7-11 Years Old: Harry Potter potions

If you could have a potion to do anything, what would it be? What ingredients would you have to include? Use the potion labels (click HERE) and example (click HERE) to write your own potion instructions.

Resources: if possible, allow children to use food-colouring/ glitter in water/ cooking oil and measuring jugs to measure their own potions.

Dragon’s Den broom design

Optional 5-7 task:

Room on the Broom colouring sheet and matching game.

5-11 Years Old: Dragon's Den broom design

Harry Potter receives a new broom: the 'Nimbus 2000'. Design you own broom by using the design sheet (click here) and then prepare your pitch. Consider: why your product is so good and why witches and wizards should buy it.

Finally, present your broom to your chosen panel of judges.

Resources: broom design sheet, pencils, colours.

Activity 4

Witch and wizard Top Trumps

5-11 Years Old: Harry Potter Top Trumps

Look at the example Top Trumps cards and then create your own cards using the template for all of the Harry Potter characters. Watch the video for how to play.

Into the unknown

5-11 Years Old: Create a magical world behind wardrobe doors

Watch the clip of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Imagine you are walking through a wardrobe; what do you think you'd find? Use either the 3D wardrobe template (click here), or the wardrobe example (click here) to create a wardrobe and what you might find inside.

Resources: card (fold card as shown on the example so it is like a wardrobe) and colour, or 3D wardrobe net, scissors, glue and colours.

Activity 7

Drama

Nursery and 5-7 Years Old: finger puppet fun

Use the finger puppets to retell the story of Room on the Broom.

5-7 Years Old: Rhyming spell

Read the letter from Tabitha then create a rhyming spell by sticking the correct words (click here) in the booklet (click here).
