BBC Earth - Penguins
Watch Blue Planet to discover what lives in the ocean. Look at the appearance, diet and behaviour of the different sea creatures. Create a fact file about the different sea creatures.

Paint a colour wash background using water colours or watered down paint. Make different sea creatures/plant life using various different techniques and textures to add to your own scene.
Resources: Paper, paint, coloured pencils/pens, tissue paper, paint brushes, craft materials and glue.
Read Tiddler to the children. Discuss the different verbs within the story - peeped, dawdled, struggled. Put the children into groups and ask them to act out parts of the story putting real emphasis on the vocabulary discussed from the story. Use imovie to film the short play.
Create a rainbow fish (see template) - use a magazine to create a rainbow fish. Cut different patterns, shapes and colours to create the scales of your rainbow fish.
Write a short adventure story about where your Rainbow fish travels. Who does he meet? What is the problem in your story? Does he nearly get eaten? Who saves him?
Visit Sea Life Trust to learn about the effects of pollution and who is trying to help.

7-11: You may want to build a website or create a video promoting awareness.
After watching video clips and researching which sea creatures are in danger. Create a poster to raise awareness about how we can reduce waste and change our habits to help improve sealife for these creatures.

Have a debate/discussion about if sea creatures should be kept in captivity. Would you visit the sea life centre? Why? Why not?
Watch video clip of penguins coming back from hunting in the sea.
Read Emperors Egg and watch the video clip of a chick being born.
Discuss with the children that penguins can live both in the sea and on land. Talk about the features of a penguin that allow them to survive in both water and on land.
