High Expectations

What do High Expectations look like at Otari School?

The Montessori Prepared Environment is orderly and structured so that children can access the activities as independently as possible.

Children work in a variety of self- and teacher-chosen groupings (individual, small groups, whole class lessons) based on their learning and social needs.

There are clear routines and expectations shared by the whole class community. Children are encouraged to choose some of their learning activities and social groupings.

Children understand that freedom comes with responsibility.

Supporting High Expectations at home

Parents encourage their child's efforts towards independence and personal excellence.

Children have opportunities to practise freedom, balanced with responsibility, within their family to develop independence. Children can contribute to family life through regular chores.

Families can discuss what 'high expectations' mean at school and home.

Children experience the logical consequence of their actions. There is an understanding that sometimes consequences are positive and sometimes negative. Through experiencing logical consequences, children build resilience.

Otari School Principle

The Otari School Curriculum (TOSC) supports and empowers all students to learn and achieve personal excellence to reach their potential.

We, as a School community, are committed to providing a holistic education encompassing academic achievement, well-being, physical health and effective social interactions.

Montessori Philosophy and Curriculum

Our objective as a Montessori community is to encourage excellence and foster independence through our carefully prepared environments. Montessori teachers are facilitators, who guide the children’s learning, using different tools to assess, plan and teach.

The Montessori Curriculum offers a wide range of learning experiences that are comprehensive and suited to the learning needs of each child. Children are encouraged to follow their interests and to achieve personal excellence.
