Going Out

“Going out” is a carefully and meticulously designed core element of Montessori education, supervised by the teacher and parents, involving excursions into the community. They are student-led field trips, initiated, planned, organised and carried out by the students themselves with the direct purpose of extending their knowledge, gathering information or experiencing new things in relation to their classroom studies. The trips are intended to help students acquire life skills and knowledge about particular subjects.

Maria Montessori: "When the child goes out, it is the world itself that offers itself to him. Let us take the child out to show him real things instead of making objects, which represent ideas, and closing them up in cupboards."
