Future Focus

What Does Future Focus Look Like at Otari School?

Children are encouraged to care for each other, including children from other strands.

Learning occurs beyond the classroom. This is accomplished through ‘going out’ forays into the wider community, in search of knowledge and experiences not available through study alone. In undertaking these trips, children further develop their social and emotional skills.

Supporting a Future Focus at home

Parents encourage children to care about other children, adults, animals, plants and the earth.

Families engage in finding solutions to problems the world faces through recycling, sustainable living, gardening and involvement in the local neighbourhood.

Parents encourage discussion about current events, creative thinking and innovation.

Otari School Principle

The Otari School Curriculum encourages students to look to the future by exploring significant future-focus issues such as sustainability, citizenship, enterprise and globalisation.

Montessori Philosophy and Curriculum

We believe that education is a ‘preparation for life’, not merely academic preparation.

MANZ Journey to Excellence Indicators

Children have daily opportunities to learn and use practical skills which enable them to develop concentration and to care for their environment, for themselves and others in the community. (1.6)
