My goal is to create an inclusive environment for all students, and I have completed SafeZone LGBTQ+ training to ensure I am doing so. All students have the right to be addressed by the preferred name they choose. If you would like to be addressed by your preferred name rather than your legal name, you can complete a request form with the University - doing so will have your preferred name referenced not only on your professors' course rosters, but also your email, student ID, and other campus applications. You can find more information on the Preferred Name Policy page and resources, including the request form, are available on the Preferred Name Protocol page.
All students also have the right to be addressed by their preferred pronouns. This information is unfortunately not available on my course roster. Please share your preferred pronouns with the class and I. A student's chosen pronouns will be respected at all times in this class.
My Expectations for You
You will treat everyone in class with respect and dignity, including using preferred names and pronouns.
You will display professionalism at all times, including in your email communications with me and your classmates.
You will be an active and contributing participant in this course.
You will work to meet all deadlines and will contact me if something comes up that will prevent you from doing so. (Emergencies happen!)
You will communicate how I can support you and help you be successful in this course.
You will reach out if something is confusing so I can help.
You understand that you will make mistakes but that they (and I) will help you grow.
You will do your best to be patient with the technology and understand that although there may be hiccups along the way, we will get through them together.
You will always strive to put your best work and effort forward.
What You Can Expect From Me
I will treat you and your classmates with respect, and will address you by your preferred name and pronouns.
I will treat all students equally and fairly in all aspects of this course, including evaluation and grades.
I will actively seek your feedback to help improve the course as we go.
I will be flexible and understanding of situations that prevent you from submitting work on time and will work with you in those instances.
I will respond to your emails and other communications in a timely manner (24 hours or less). If something arises that prohibits me from being able to do so, I will notify you immediately.
I will also make mistakes and, when I do, will notify you and work to correct them.
I will take all questions and concerns seriously and do anything I can to satisfactorily address them.
I will always strive to give you the best version of myself as your teacher.
I will do everything I can to help you be successful.
Community (What We Can Expect From the Group)
Hate speech, racism, and/or any other inflammatory language will not be accepted under any circumstance, including within your discussions and assignments. While everyone has the right to freedom of speech and expression, things like hate speech and racism can negatively impact those around you and/or create a hostile and unwelcoming environment. If you are concerned with another student's conduct in this manner, including personal attacks, please reach out to me so that I may address the situation. If I note these issues within your coursework, I will contact you personally.
NOTICE: These classroom expectations exist in conjunction with the SUNY Oswego Student Code of Conduct.
If you are not already familiar with these conduct guidelines, please be sure to familiarize yourself.
