This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to scientific research methods that are used in Criminal Justice and related disciplines. Students will learn the fundamentals of research methods, including ethical issues involved in research, the differences between qualitative and quantitative research, and different designs used in both types of research. The basic elements of research design and important terminology will also be emphasized in this course.
Prerequisites: CRJ 101.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Describe the basic terminology related to research methods
Summarize the ethical considerations and concerns involved in performing research
Compare and contrast quantitative and qualitative research studies
Identify different ways to collect data and different sampling techniques
Distinguish between independent and dependent variables
Recognize levels of measurement as they pertain to variables
Demonstrate college-level reading, writing, and communication skills
