Your course grade is based on a possible total of 100%. A breakdown of the range for each letter grade is included on the chart to the left. Please note that Blackboard's grade book calculates your course grade in real time based on the assignments completed at any given point. As your work is graded, your course grade also will update - so what you see as your course grade in Blackboard is your standing based on any work completed up to that time. I encourage you to check in on this regularly so that you always know where you stand in the course.
SUNY Oswego uses a +/- grading scale for final grades and to calculate grade point averages (GPAs). In this course, grades are assigned based on the chart provided here. Other classes may not be graded with the same breakdown, so be sure you check with your other professors and/or syllabi.
I want you to have every chance in this course to be successful and earn the best possible grade you can. There will be a few extra credit opportunities (totaling 30 points or 5% of the overall course grade) sprinkled throughout the semester to help your earn some additional points along the way. You will find these in Blackboard in various weeks, so be sure to keep an eye out!
The term "fake news" is one that is thrown around a lot in our society today. It even got its own entry in the Urban Dictionary! For your first extra credit assignment, let's see if you can spot the fake news stories from the real news stories. Visit Factitious and select the Quick Start option. Play all 3 rounds of the game and record your final score. Write a short blurb (about a paragraph) telling me what your score was and what your thoughts of the activity were. Did your results surprise you? What was the most difficult part of differentiating the fake news from the real news? Upload your Word document (.doc or .docx extension) in Blackboard in the Week 1 > Extra Credit dropbox. Don't forget to put your name on your document so I know it's yours!
This extra credit is worth 5 points.
