When news gathering at OSHS, communication skills are key. Whether it's emailing a student about a question or calling a teacher and asking if there is a certain student in their class available for an interview. Before conducting interviews, I make sure the student I'm interviewing is passionate about the topic I'm interviewing for and during the interview I make sure they are replying with accurate, reliable, and factual answers. Found below are examples!
Above are 2 examples of me using email to reach out to a teacher and student about situations that effected themselves or the yearbook.
This is an image of our current page assignments, which is a giant list that displays which staff member is responsible for which page. It is important to stay organized in such a busy class since there are so many moving components involved with the yearbook staff.
This is an image of the white-board that the yearbook staff uses to keep track of what games or meets each staff member has gone to. We are required to go to at least one game or meet per season for at least 1 hour since it is a part of a quarter grade. This helps keep our staff organized since there are so many sports and so many members on staff.
This is an image of our current white-board which is essentially a giant to-do list for the entire staff. It consists of mistakes and pages that need to be fixed before the yearbook is due. Stars are included next to issues depening on how important the mistakes or pages are.
We create a new google drive every year to organize each staff member's photos so we can keep track of which staff member has gone to which game and so we are able to give credit to the staff if their photography is used on a page. Under folders like academics and athletics, there are multiple subfolders to achieve maximum organization. Then, under specific subjects, there are sub folders that are titled with the name of which staff member took photos of that subject.
