My name is Gemma Wallis and I am a sophomore at Ocean Springs High School in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. I am a member of my school's yearbook staff and although this is my first year, I have 2 years of past experience as a part of the Ocean Springs Middle School Yearbook Staff. Even though middle school yearbook is nothing compared to high school yearbook, it has prepared me for my future on the Ocean Springs High School Yearbook Staff. I never knew that clicking a button on my schedule would make me accidentally fall in love with photography, yearbook, and everything that comes along with it.
I had to step up as a leader when our senior editors decided not to return to the staff after the Christmas break so I have recently accepted a position as a part of Head of Staff and I work with my partner to make decisions that effect our staff as a whole. Whether it's deciding dates for interviews or making decisions with my yearbook advisor, my partner and I work as a team that has not only bonded us as classmates but also as friends. I am a part of an amazing group of people that have created this year's yearbook titled "Anchored" which is a celebration of all that we are at Ocean Springs High School.
In addition to my position on the yearbook staff, I am a member of the OSHS Student Council where I serve as the Sophomore Class Historian. As historian, I run my classes Instagram account and I am responsible for recording the memories and events for the four years the OSHS Class of 2028 attends high school. Not only do I run our class Instagram but I also take part in creating and making decisions that will effect my high school in unimaginable ways. Journalism, photography, and yearbook have helped me find myself and who I am in this world and I am so excited to see where it takes me it my near future!
This was my first time on a football sideline when I was in the 8th grade back in 2024. I was so excited and nervous at the same time because I was finally getting to experience football before I got to high school Friday Night Lights!
This is a current photo of me at my high school's Homecoming Pep-Rally. It brings me so much joy to be able to be on the court during these events because I love being able to capture the memories rather than just being stuck in the bleachers with the rest of my class.
Here is our entire yearbook staff at the 2025 Mississippi Scholastic Press Association Convention in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. This team has grown to be like a second family and I love being able to work with such an amazing group of people.
