Task 1- Analyze Primary Sources
Primary sources provide us with firsthand accounts of historical events and that letters and speeches are two types of primary sources. Recall that “Road to Revolution” is an informational text that contains an excerpt from a letter and an excerpt from a speech. These are primary sources because they contain the exact words written by George Washington and spoken by Patrick Henry and reflect their personal points of view around the time of the Revolutionary War. Explain that this mini-lesson will focus on understanding the features of persuasive letters and speeches as primary sources.
Ask: What do you think are the important features of persuasive letters and speeches?
