California Missions and Ranchos #5

This is our new unit on California Missions and Ranchos. Please follow the following directions.

1) The first slide is vocabulary you will see throughout the lesson. When you find one of the words type it on this slide. You will have this slide each week and will continue to add to it.

2) Read the second slide "Write a Land Grant" and use slide 3 to look at for location. You will be writing a letter to ask for land to build a ranchero (slide 4 has a template for you to write your letter). There are certain things you must include in your letter (the directions on the slide also tell you these things).

a) Decide the location and ask for that spot in your letter (use the maps to help you locate a good spot....being near a river is a good idea)

b) You must promise to build a house in your letter

c)You must promise that you will have at least 150 cattle in your letter (you can have more than that).

4) Slide 4 you will write your letter requesting a certain location and promising to build a house and have at least 150 head of cattle. You must also:

a) Come up with a name for your Ranchero

b) Create a brand for your cattle and Ranchero. (slide 5 gives an example of a Ranchero name and a cattle brand)

3) Slide 6 is comparing and contrasting Missions and Rancheros. List two differences and one similarity. If you don't remember you can go back to previous weeks lessons and look at those slides.

Make sure bring a FULLY Charged Chromebook with you to in person!!!!
