14Close Reading: Integrate Information from Several Texts on the Same Topic
Integrating information from several texts on the same topic is a strategy that helps them become more knowledgeable about the topic. This mini-lesson will focus on integrating information about the Revolutionary War to understand how the conflicts leading to this war paved the way for the creation of the United States of America.
Ask: How can integrating information help you become more knowledgeable?
Reread to Find Text Evidence
Close Reading Prompt: Reread paragraphs 1 and 7–12 of “The Nation at War” and review the Week 1 readings “Yankee Doodle Boy” and “Road to Revolution.” Using what you’ve learned from these texts, discuss how the conflict between the American colonists and the British over taxes, regulations, and representation paved the way for the creation of the United States of America.
Annotate! Create a T-bar chart in the margin to help you compare the colonists’ circumstances before and after the Revolutionary War.
