This picture from our design shows the needs for bicycles, what paths are needed and used, and the area of concerns. The bike path uses a mix of both the contraflow and multi-use paths in different areas along Campus Way. The areas of concerns are the main thing to look at in this picture and notice that the whole path is an area of concern. This is not good because the whole path is not suitable for bikes and does not make it easy or more accessible for people to use bikes on this street. The street is cracked and has cars parked along the side of it taking up space so there is always an obstacle to bike around or you are riding on pavement that is bumpy and unsafe.Â
Part of our proposal to fix campus way is this intersection in front of Kearney Engineering building. We are proposing to put in bollards at the start of the street into campus and make the whole path a shared space for bikes and pedestrians. The bollards will be collapsible making it so that emergency vehicles can remotely use them to lower and raise them if they need to get in. We will also add a stop sign for this cycle path on both sides for the cyclists so that the chance of getting hit by a car is lowered and crossing the busy intersection. The middle of the intersection will also be raised so that it slows cars down and also lessens the risks of hitting a cyclist on the track. Further down the cycle path we will remove parking and continue this path so that it creates a one stop path that can be biked on to get to campus quickly. By creating this cycle path and large area for bikes and pedestrains to use, it will help promote biking and walking to class instead of driving.
