Through completing this assignment I learned how to use evidence, motives, and alibis to solve a case. This assignment taught me that analyzing witness statements and comparing them with forensic reports helps identify the real suspect. I enjoyed this assignment because it made me think like a detective and showed how science connects to problem solving. This assignment represents investigation and critical thinking, which are important skills in this course. If I had to complete this assignment again, I would improve it by collecting more details and double-checking the evidence more carefully.
This assignment is an example of a Case Study report. This assignment was completed as a part of our unit about forensic science and how evidence can be used to solve crimes. The objective of this assignment was to research the Richard Crafts “Woodchipper Case” and explain how forensic science helped investigators prove a murder without a full body. The components of this assignment were research, reading about the case, and then writing about the evidence that was collected. To complete this assignment, first I learned about the disappearance of Helle Crafts, then I studied the suspicious actions of Richard Crafts, and finally I wrote about how Dr. Henry Lee and other forensic experts found blood, hair, bone, and a tooth that proved she was murdered.
