Evaluate Atomic Spectra Lab
This assignment is an example of the Atomic Spectrum and what causes the emission of colors in a substance. The task of this Lab was to use the Flame test to identify the unknown components of a substance.
The objective of this assignment was to accurately use the flame test and describe the change in color, which would later help answer questions based on the lab.
This assignment fits in with the overall unit because it helped understand how emission in substances work, for example emission is when energy is applied to an atom, which then causes the atom to absorb the energy, and then causes its electrons to get promoted to a higher state. As these electrons calm back down a particle of light is then released.
I learned how to effectively use the Flame Test to identify unknown components within a substance, for example the flame would turn green if copper is present, yellow if sodium is present, pink when lithium is present, and violet when potassium is present.
This assignment showcases my strengths because it explains how well I'm able to follow instructions and how I'm able to analyze the data collected during the lab.
The assignment represents important themes in the course because it introduces us to new methods in chemistry and helps us understand the concept behind it.
I enjoyed performing the assignment because it introduces us to something new and helps us gather more information.
1.3 Unit Test
The Task was to answer relevant information based on the Unit, and what we've been taught during the unit through classwork, homework, and Mr. Austin herself.
The objective was to successfully answer the questions based on information we were being taught and show our understanding of the unit.
The assignment fit in with the overall unit because it was a test that was made up of components of the whole unit and what we've been taught so far.
I have learned that there are many equations and formulas that are needed to calculate wavelength, energy, and frequency.
The challenging part of this assignment was successfully using the information learned to answer the questions, and using my own reasoning to help answer the questions.
I would Improve on this assignment by going to office hours and getting some 1 on 1 with Ms. Austin. This would better help me understand where i went wrong and what I did incorrectly on this test.
I haven't redone this assignment, but will in office hours through revisions where Ms. Austin explains the question and helps students better understand.
