MARKING PERIOD 2
The task of this assignment was to create a presentation of who you think were the most recognizable people of 2022 being that it just ended. The group of people I chose was the organization Joi’s Angels which is a nonprofit organization that helps the homeless and those who don't have enough by giving them housing, food, and a social place to be. This fit into the overall unit because we were able to use it as our panel if we were selected for panel for ELA. I learned that many organizations like this one, small ones go unnoticed when it comes to people of the Year Awards or groups of the Year Awards. To me the most challenging thing about this assignment was trying not to put my opinion in it and using only facts. I was a worker for the nonprofit organization which made me a little biased to why they should get it. I would have improved this assignment myself by taking more time to focus in on what the individuals did to build up the organization.
This assignment was completed as a part of our unit about understanding and comprehending lyrics and how every part of something written has a meaning. We further went into this by picking a song and a specific set of lyrics and using it to understand the meaning and how things such as title, theme, turns, tools, etc help create something wonderful. The task of this assignment was to use specific lyrics and use the big six tools to dissect what the lyrics talked about and what was used to create those lyrics. this assignment fit into the overall unit because we were able to use these tools and further readings. I learned that these tools are used and basically everything that we do, everything that we say, everything that we read. I believe that this was one of my strengths because I was able to use something that I was familiar with which was a Kanye West song and I was able to showcase what the big six was. I enjoyed this assignment because I got to further know and learn about what he meant by the song, I got to dig deeper.
MARKING PERIOD 3
The Mind map elevator notes was something that I was very proud of because I was able to put some my personal life into it and use a bit of creativity which is one of my favorite things to do. the task was to insert a quote, new information about a person who just joined, three new important details, a picture, and my opinion on the chapter after reading it. The assignment fit into the overall unit because the unit talked about the book a long way down and the assignment incorporated the long way down mindset of it being in an elevator which I liked and was able to associate myself more with. This assignment showcased my strengths because I was able to use pictures that described what I got from the chapter and I was able to write a little blob of text under to tell the reader what that image meant to me regarding the text. This assignment helped me to remember new characters and new ideas because I was able to remember it by the pictures that I input to the slides. This was a neater way of note-taking and it was much appreciated for me because I was able to retain lots of the information due to it being a fun assignment.
The purpose of this assignment was to use redactions to protest injustices and an article chosen from a credible news source that is relevant to the task. In class we reviewed what a blackout poem was and how by blacking out certain parts of a text other things are highlighted more. My topic was abortions and based off of my grade and my feedback given back I believe that the reason I got the grade I received was because I wasn't specific and I didn't build enough of a purpose and the article that I used. I believe if I used a different article I would have been able to keep more words that were significant and I would be able to get a higher grade. By redacting certain words from the original text I was able to create my own poem. The challenging part about this assignment was figuring what words should be kept and what words should be redacted, this held a high priority because if I chose the wrong words then the purpose wouldn't be conveyed through my new poem.
