READING ACTIVITY

This summer, we’re challenging our students to push past their comfort zones by exploring a variety of genres and making reading part of their daily routine. Each student will read one of the novels belows. (Paper copies of each novel will be available for loan in the OPS Main Office Lobby. You can also click the title above for the available audiobook through Libby or YouTube! While reading one of the novels, get ready to complete one of the projects from the below list.

Lunch Money by Andrew Clements [audiobook available on YouTube]
Lawn Boy by Gary Paulsen [audiobook available on YouTube]
The Candymakers by Wendy Mass [audiobook available on Libby]
Projects - Pick ONE project from the list below.
Option 1: Create a poster of important events from the novel.
Option 2: Create an original book jacket.
Option 3: Create a Google Slide presentation that includes a summary of the novel. Explain why each of the events included in your summary are important in your novel.
Option 4: Write a 3-paragraph essay.
Your assignment is due on Friday, September 4, and will be your first reading grade for the year.

Lemonade Stand Startup: Become a Sixth Grade Entrepreneur!
This summer, you're not just making lemonade, you're becoming a business owner! Your challenge is to think like an entrepreneur and create your very own lemonade stand.
The Challenge: Print and complete the Lemonade Stand Startup Business Plan. Be sure to show all of your work and your thinking as you plan your business.
What to Bring Back in September?
Your Business Sign: Create a colorful sign or logo that advertises your lemonade stand and shows off your business name and brand.
Your Business Plan: Complete the Lemonade Stand Startup Business planning sheet that explains how you prepared to open your lemonade stand.
Whether you set up a stand or just envision what it might be like, we can't wait to see your creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial spirit!

Whether your summer travels take you across the globe or you’re enjoying a relaxing summer at home, we want to map out our collective adventures! We are thrilled to see just how far our incoming sixth-grade class travels this summer.
Your Locker Postcard:
We’re bringing your summer activities into the classroom, too! We’ll be turning your locker name cards into postcards that represent where you went or what you did this summer. It’s a great way to share your stories, learn about your classmates' experiences, and see the amazing places our OPS community has visited.
Locker Postcard Materials:
1 - 4x 6 Index Card (available in the main office lobby at Oradell Public School)
