MLA Format Basics

• Header: On the left. Double Spaced. Proper MLA format.

  • Important: 

    • The MLA Header (also called the Running header) is in the Doc header so that it repeats on following pages. 

    • The MLA Heading (the one with your name, teacher, class and date) is on the body of the Doc so that it does NOT repeat.

• Margins: MLA = 1 inch all the way around

• Font: Double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point — header, title and Works Cited, too!

• Citations: Instructions for proper MLA citations. CHECK for proper punctuation.

Lead in, “quote” (Author’s last name pg#).

Scout recalls her love of reading saying,  “Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing” (Lee 212).
