The structure:
For a short, analytical essay (4 to 5 paragraphs) introductory paragraphs are generally between 4 to 5 sentences long
Begins with an ICD (interest catching device) such as a generalized statement relating to the topic. ICD should NOT be a question in an analytical essay. If you choose a quote as your ICD, make sure you lead in and attribute (say who said/wrote the quote).
Intro may include relevant background information
Must include author's full name and title of work (s)
Ends with a thesis statement
