Step 1: Look at the artwork and answer questions 1-3.
Step 2: Think: When you read the words “Tick. Tick. Tick.” what sound do you hear? This is called onomatopoeia (pronounced on-uh-mat-uh–pee–uh). Onomatopoeia is defined as a word which imitates the natural sounds of a thing. It creates a sound effect that mimics the thing described, making the description more expressive and interesting.
Step 3: What other words can you think of that would be an onomatopoeia?
