Onslow St Audrey's School (OSA) was proud to host Danes Educational Trust (DET) Learner Voice Council (LVC) Secondary Induction Day. The event successfully brought together student leaders and staff from across the secondary schools within Trust, including new LVC teams from The John Warner School and The Beaconsfield School, for a focused day of leadership training and collaboration.
A highlight of the day was the significant contribution made by our own OSA community members, who led crucial skill-building workshops for the LVC students.
We are immensely proud of our OSA Sixth Form Team; specifically Malik, Vinuya, and Tomisin, who expertly delivered a practical, high-energy workshop on Teamwork. Their session provided the young LVC representatives with essential tools for negotiation and communication, empowering them to work effectively on their upcoming learning missions.
Furthermore, Mrs Weetman, guided students through a valuable session focused on oracy, ensuring that the LVC members can articulate their research findings and proposals with clarity and impact.
The delegates rotated through a structured workshop carousel, designed to equip them for their LVC responsibilities:
Oracy Skills: Led by OSA’s Mrs Weetman.
Teaching and Learning: Led by Ms Cox (Assistant Headteacher at Croxley Danes School), whose practical experience was highly beneficial.
Teamwork and Communication: Led by the OSA Sixth Form Team.
Research Skills/Top Tips: Led by the LVC Team from St Clement Danes (supported by Ms Smart).
Crucially, these four workshops provided the students with all the necessary skills to implement changes and address their learning mission.
In the afternoon, the LVC students had dedicated time with Miss Anthony, one of the LVC Facilitators, to begin the practical work of planning their learning mission and completing the audit stage of their research cycle.
Now in its fifth year, the LVC remains a vital platform for students to directly influence teaching and learning. The process is rigorous, empowering students to drive meaningful change by following a research cycle: planning, auditing, implementing, and evaluating.
Mr Conway, Trust Learning Lead, shared his appreciation for all contributors:
"The DET LVC Secondary Induction Day remains a very special occasion where all our schools come together. I am incredibly grateful for the dedication shown by our workshop leaders and facilitators. Special thanks go to Mrs Weetman, Ms Cox, Ms Smart and the St Clement Danes LVC team, and Malik, Vinuya, and Tomisin from Onslow St Audrey’s School for leading such valuable sessions at the event, and Miss Anthony for supporting the event."
We want to extend our sincere appreciation and pride to all the dedicated students who make up the OSA Learner Voice Council. Your commitment to improving teaching and learning across our school is invaluable.
