Further Considerations
Further Considerations
Leaving Island School or if it is likely you will be leaving Island School prior to Quest Week:
If you are leaving Island School prior to Quest Week please confirm this by selecting “I am Leaving Island School” through the Form.
If there is a possibility that you will be leaving Island School, for whatever reason, then please select the option “I am LIKELY to leave IS”. If, further down the line, you find you will be remaining at Island School please contact Ms. Amy Yau for information on which options are still available.
Exams and interviews:
Quest Week 2025 falls at the start of November, with overseas trips utilising the weekends either side to travel. These dates have been chosen in order to try to avoid some external examinations which have affected some students in the past few years. However it is NOT guaranteed that this date will solve this problem. It is therefore still very important that you check that you are not going to be involved in ANY exams (SAT’s, re-sits, etc) which might affect your choice for Quest Week 2025. It is YOUR responsibility to check this and to make sure you do not have a clash.
Once you have been confirmed on your option and your deposit has been paid, if you decide that you can no longer go on your chosen Quest Week option, you will NOT be entitled to any refund of your deposit.
Overseas Trips:
VISA's: Parents are responsible for arranging VISA's if required. Necessary paperwork to support your application will be provided by the school. VISA's on arrival are not accepted by the school so VISA's, if required, must be applied for and obtained in advance of the trip.
Passports: Passports need to be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of arrival at the destination. Again, this is your responsibility. Passports must also have a minimum of one clear page.
Vaccinations: Please consult with your doctor on any vaccination/inoculation requirements required for your country of travel. If required, you must ensure these are given in the appropriate time frame prior to the departure date.
Safety
Safety is a major focus for Island School when organising activities.
The following steps are taken to ensure this safety:
Documentation regarding the registration and status of any outside provider is collected.
References are sought and checked.
For outside providers, the qualifications of personnel and the safety and risk mitigation procedures of the provider are checked.
Activity leaders check first aid training status and if necessary re-train.
Medical details for all students are examined, collated and followed up as necessary.
Detailed risk-mitigation documents covering every aspect of the activity are created by service providers and leaders; and checked and signed off by the VP in charge of Quest Week.
Itineraries, contact details, student and family contact details are collated and copies kept at school.
First aid kits are ordered, customised and collected.
A case is created with International SOS for each overseas trip establishing up to date travel, medical and safety advice based on the specific itinerary for that trip. This information is used as a part of the risk assessments drawn up for each trip. Closest medical and logistical support is noted and leaders carry these contact details.
Any medical or safety issues or concerns are reported back to the School's emergency contact, who is in contact with parents via the emergency phone number.
Experiences are collected and shared across ESF to inform future planning and practice.
