Online Safety of our Students is our Priority
We recognize the importance of the online safety and security of our students and are taking every precaution in this regard. The following steps have been taken to ensure our kids are safe and protected online:
OGS Provisioned Chromebooks have been installed with GoGuardian, our online security system which allows strict monitoring of our students' online activity.
We have a team in place with experts in ZOOM as well as GoGuardian who have tightened online security measures around our ZOOM classrooms.
Only users with OGS accounts will be allowed access into ZOOM rooms.
GoGuardian also allows us to block access to irrelevant and inappropriate online content. For more information about blocked sites, please click here. This list will be updated periodically and we appreciate any feedback from parents about any harmful content that is still being accessed by our students.
With all these security measures in place, we hope to be fulfilling our responsibility towards ensuring the safety of our students. However, the online world is vast and can be controlled to only a certain degree. For that reason, we have to be constantly on guard and need our parents to do the same. We pray that Allah protects our children in health and Imaan.
Screen Responsibly
With children now being home all day, we strongly encourage you to consider the following to keep your children safe:
Ensure that devices at home are used in public areas (kitchen, family rooms, etc where screens can be easily seen).
Parents are encouraged to limit the use of devices (including Chromebooks) to 1-2 hours per day for OGMS students, out of the few extra hours now required for Distance Learning. Teachers will limit homework requiring Chromebooks to this time frame.
Note that OGS provisioned Chromebooks will only be usable between 7:00 am to 10:00 pm for the time being. Please take necessary steps to block internet access during these hours if you feel the need to limit it further.
For the online safety of our students, the OGS provisioned Chromebooks are installed with GoGuardian security system which is in place to monitor all online actions along with blocking all irrelevant and inappropriate sites. Hence, we recommend all schoolwork to be done on the school provided Chromebooks.
All devices should be returned to the parent at a predetermined time before bedtime and not permitted to be in the room with a student overnight.
Email and social media sites should be linked to parents’ phones etc to allow for easier monitoring.
Parents should have access to all accounts and their child’s passwords.
Parent modelling is the best example. Having screen-free time for both adults and children greatly increases family interaction and aids in mental health.
Nothing replaces adult supervision.
Once normal school routine resumes, please do not send any phones or devices with your child to school, unless absolutely necessary (devices, other than Chromebooks, cannot be used during the hours of 8am to 4pm).
