Safe daily operation is needed for a safe school reopening

There are designated entrances and exits assigned for each class in both buildings. We ask parents and students to strictly enter and exit the school from their designated entrances and exits as per the following:

For OGS Elementary School Building - 2300 Speakman Drive

Designated entrances/exits:

Morning Drop-off:

  • Students are expected to enter the school from their designated entrance only

  • Parents must drop off their children at the designated entrance for the youngest child

  • Older siblings are expected to walk to their designated entrance

  • Students must maintain physical distance when entering the building and strictly follow the instructions of the teacher on duty

Afternoon Pick-up:

  • Students will be dismissed from their classrooms

  • When called, students must follow the teacher's instructions and use their designated entrance to exit the building

  • Students must maintain physical distance when exiting the building and strictly follow the instructions of the teacher on duty

For OGS Middle and High School Building - 2270 Speakman Drive

Morning Drop-off:

  • Parents must drop off their children at the building's Kiss N Ride

  • Students are expected to enter the school from their designated entrance only

  • Students must maintain physical distance when entering the building and strictly follow the instructions of the teacher on duty

Afternoon Pick-up:

  • Students will be dismissed from their classrooms

  • When called, students must follow the teacher's instructions and use their designated entrance to exit the building

  • Students must maintain physical distance when exiting the building and strictly follow the instructions of the teacher on duty

Student Lates/Appointments

  • If a student must leave school before dismissal, the parent is to contact the school (Attendance line or school phone) to register the appointment

  • For late arrivals, parents should notify the school via SchoolMessenger, phone or come to the school with your child(ren).

  • Parents will not be able to enter the school; staff will greet late students/bring students to a “safe zone” or other identified area outside the school for any appointment

Uniform and Dress Code

  • Onsite OGS and OGMS are required to wear their gym uniform daily

  • Onsite OGHS boys are expected to wear their gym uniform daily where as girls are highly encouraged to wear their gym shirts with a modest, black or navy blue, ankle length skirt. However, they can wear their gym uniforms (gym shirts and gym pants) daily, provided the shirt and pants are worn in a loose and modest manner.

  • It is highly recommended to have multiple sets of gym uniforms so that students are able to wear newly washed uniform every day

  • Because of the need to wear masks, there will be an ease in the implementation of hijab wearing for younger girls in Grade 4 for the first term only

  • Female students wearing adult sizes are strongly encouraged to wear their uniform skirts

Student Belongings & Locker Use

  • Student personal belongings brought to school will go home at the end of the day;

  • Students will be assigned lockers whenever possible

  • The same locker cannot be shared by multiple students. It’s the students responsibility to keep them neat and clean.

  • Lockers have to be emptied at the end of the week to allow for thorough cleaning/sanitization. It’s the students responsibility to belongings which fit neatly into the students’ personalized desk cubbies/bins may stay at school

  • Spaces to store backpacks and outdoor/indoor shoes will be arranged within the classroom

  • All personal belongings must be labeled (Initial and grade or OGS id#)

  • Students may not share items or bring items that are non essential (e.g., play/sport equipment)

  • Essential daily items only (e.g., backpack, clothing, water bottles, food) must be brought to school daily

  • Items not needed for the day (for example, subject specific textbooks) should stay at home

  • For parents needing to drop off essential items, they can do so on a designated table outside of the school main doors for both OGS and OGMS buildings. Parents are not to enter the building

Salah

  • Students will be scheduled, as per their age group, to perform Salah in congregation, keeping the 50 people cohort size in mind

  • Others will perform their daily prayers in their classrooms

  • Students will be required to bring their own prayer mats and social distancing during Salah will strictly be implemented

  • Personal prayer mats must be taken home daily and washed/sanitized periodically

  • Wudu process will be staggered according to a set schedule

Lunch Time

  • Lunch times will be staggered to allow students to wash their hands before eating, without crowding the washrooms

  • Students will eat their lunches in their classrooms, while maintaining physical distancing throughout this time

  • Consideration will be made to have lunch breaks outside, provided weather permits

  • 'No food sharing' policy will be reinforced and there will be no activities that involve students in preparing or serving food

  • Students are required to take all food waste home with them. No food will be allowed to be disposed of in school

  • Water bottles and other utensils will not be allowed to share

  • Students are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles

Hot Lunch and Fundraising Programs

  • Hot Lunch program is not running for the first term

  • Other food programs/fundraisers like pizza/bake sales are also on hold

  • Commercial food deliveries like Skip the Dishes are not permitted

Gym and Physical Education

  • PhysEd curriculum will be covered with the best possible precautions

  • A lead PhysEd teacher has been appointed to overlook the best way to implement the PhysEd curriculum in these challenging times

  • Outdoor sports and Daily Physical Activities (DPA) will be encouraged and should continue in accordance with the Ministry recommended protocols

Outdoor Play Structures

  • Outdoor play structures are closed to student use as it is not possible to clean this equipment daily or between the staggered outdoor breaks

  • Families are requested not to use these structures when coming into or leaving school premises

Washroom Use

  • A maximum capacity will be established and posted on the door to allow physical distancing

  • Hand sanitizing stations will be established at the washroom entrances

  • Staff will be monitoring to organize access to washrooms by students

Assemblies and Library Use

  • Large gatherings/assemblies will be cancelled for the immediate future

  • Library visitation will not be allowed

  • Parents, students and staff are encouraged to access online literacy resources via our Library Website

EnrichIt! Programs

  • Extracurricular activities and events during school hours will be maintained when possible and resume sports and activities that can safely continue based on input from local medical officers of health

  • Some EnrichIt! programs will be conducted virtually whenever possible

Day Field Trips

  • Day Field Trips that require students to leave school premises and those including inter-school competitions/activities will be on hold until safe to do so

  • Walking Outdoor Experiential learning opportunities like activities in the local community, parks and trail, that require leaving school property but can be done safely by maintaining cohorts and social distancing may continue

Lost and Found

  • Students will be encouraged to be more responsible for their belongings and minimize lost items

  • Students will be notified to pick up their labelled lost items when found

  • Unlabelled items will be stored in the Lost and Found box. Students/Parents can only access it with proper PPE, which includes mask and gloves

  • Unclaimed Lost and Found items will be donated or removed from the school at the end of every month

Visitors and Volunteers

  • We will be limiting parents, classroom volunteers, guests and other visitors inside the school

  • We will be using video and telephone conferencing to interact with parents wherever possible, rather than in-person

  • Whenever face-to-face meetings are scheduled by appointment, screening will be required and medical masks will be mandatory

Transportation

  • It is the responsibility of the parents to ensure that proper precautions are followed while transporting children to and from the school

  • For students who carpool or use third party bussing services, please ensure they have protocols in place

  • Students who are ill should not ride the bus

Before and After School Child Care Programs

Emergency Procedures

We will develop processes to adhere to physical distancing and cohort management while practicing emergency procedures like Lockdown and Fire Drills

Parent Orientation Event

  • Smaller groups of students from each grade level will be invited at designated times throughout the first day of school orientation in order to ease their return to school and inform them of all the health and safety measures put in place

  • All JK students, whether onsite or DL, will be invited individually throughout the first week to a meeting with their teachers and orientation around their classrooms

Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and Council Elections

  • Given the restrictions regarding meeting in person, we will continue to engage school councils virtually via ZOOM

  • The election of PAC members will be held in the first 30 days of the school year

  • The election of PAC members must be by secret ballot. A Google Form will be set up for anonymous, electronic voting in real time
