SAT & ACT

Along with your grades, extracurriculars, and personal essays, universities admissions counselors may use the SAT and ACT to help evaluate how ready you are to begin university as a freshman. Many schools are now phasing out the use of these test, check college admissions websites to see if they require these tests.

Cal States and UCs are no longer using these tests for admissions purposes.

SAT Reasoning Test Learn about and register for the SAT here. Juniors take the SAT in spring to be eligible to apply to a university directly from high school. It is recommended to take the test again in the fall of senior year, as most students increase their score the second time.

ACT test Learn about and register for the ACT here. Juniors take the ACT in spring to be eligible to apply to a university directly from high school. It is recommended to take the test again in the fall of senior year, as most students increase their score the second time.


HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR THE SAT AND ACT?

The first way to prepare is to do your best in all your classes, particularly Math and English.

There are free study guides and tips on the SAT website (College Board) and Khan Academy. The ACT website has free study guides and ACT Academy.
