CSF

The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) emphasizes high standards of scholarship and community service for California high school students. CSF was started in 1921 to acknowledge high school students for service to their school and their community while fostering pride in academic scholastic achievement.

CSF Meetings are held twice a month at lunch. Make sure to check messages and posts in the CSF Student Square group for the most up-to-date information on meetings and activities. Meetings are open to all current CSF members to discuss current and upcoming service projects. Previous service projects include providing breakfast foods to a local elementary for students who do not have access to breakfast, working with elementary students to make sack lunches for the homeless community, winter clothing drive, a book drive for the library, and a beach clean-up.

CSF Membership is based on scholarship and is gained after qualifying grades are earned each semester. In order to become a member students must submit an application each semester that the student is eligible. A point system specified in the CSF State By-Laws establishes the membership requirements. To secure eligibility for CSF membership a student must earn sufficient points from pre-approved course lists. The majority of the required membership points must come from the student's core courses such as English, math, social sciences, and language. Members must also attend a minimum of one meeting per month, and participate in at least one service project each semester that they are a member.

CSF registration is held early in each semester. Students must apply every semester, with the previous semester’s grades. Membership is not automatic. It is up to the student to be diligent in applying and submit their paperwork and dues on time. Late applications are not accepted for any reason. Deadlines are announced in the Nordhoff Bulletin.

Life Membership (Sealbearers) is achieved by qualifying four or more semesters in the last three years of high school, including at least one semester during their senior year. To be eligible for Sealbearer status seniors must have met all the membership requirements listed above, including meeting attendance and service project requirements. Sealbearers earn the CSF Gold Seal on their diplomas, a notation on their transcripts, and recognition at graduation with CSF pins and gold cords. They are also eligible to apply for scholarships exclusive to CSF Sealbearers.
