In order to be eligible for the full IB Diploma, students are required to complete the three core components in addition to their IB coursework. Failure to complete any of the three core components will result in the student no longer be eligible for the IB Diploma. Any exams the student completes will count towards individual IB Course Certificates and can be applied towards university credit on a case by case basis. See Utah IB & AP transfer guides for more information.
The emphasis of CAS is on experiential learning and developing the whole person beyond simply academic success. Ogden High offers a wide range of extra-curricular clubs, projects, and groups which can be used to develop a student's CAS program. Students set personal goals based on the IB Learner Profile and aim to fulfill seven (7) learning outcomes. Students will create an e-portfolio or other portfolio to document their progress towards their goals. Mrs. Hanson (hansong@ogdensd.org) is the CAS Coordinator. Students that do not complete their CAS projects by June 1 of their senior year, will no longer be eligible for the IB Diploma. Any exams the students complete will count towards individual IB Course Certificates and can be applied towards university credit on a case-by-case basis.
It is important to note that work that is part of a student's study within their academic program, Theory of Knowledge or Extended Essay may not count toward CAS Learning Outcomes.
Creativity conveys the widest range of arts and aesthetic experiences. Supervised involvement in art, drama, music, and/or literature meets this requirement. However, appropriate CAS activities are not merely "more of the same" - more practice, more concerts with the school band, etc. Activities should be focused on helping the student reach one of their seven Learning Outcomes based on the IB Learner Profile.
