Interested in Taking Community College Classes?
If you’d like to take community college courses while in high school, you must schedule an appointment with your PSC to discuss your academic goals. Please note that dual enrollment approval is at the discretion of your counselor.
Dual/Concurrent Enrollment is when an OP student is approved to take classes at a community college or Pathways College
If the student completes the class, it will count as elective credit toward high school graduation and as college credit.
Dual Enrollment tuition is waived for eligible students.
Students excelling at OP who want to challenge themselves with college-level courses
Students planning to attend college and need to fulfill a requirement not offered at our center

Participation in Dual Enrollment courses allows students to earn college credit while enrolled in high school and may also be used to satisfy select high school graduation requirements. However, the acceptance, applicability, and transferability of college credit toward a certificate, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree program is determined solely by the receiving college or university.
Opportunities For Learning & Options For Youth does not guarantee that any Dual Enrollment coursework will transfer, fulfill general education requirements, meet major preparation, or be applied toward a degree at another institution.
Each college or university maintains its own transfer credit policies. Students and families are strongly encouraged to verify transferability directly with prospective institutions prior to enrollment in a course.
Students may review transfer information using official college resources, including but not limited to:
The college or university admissions or registrar’s office
Transfer credit and articulation policies published by the institution
Transfer agreements and course equivalencies listed on ASSIST.org (for California public colleges and universities)
CSU GE-Breadth or IGETC/Cal-GETC certification guidelines, when applicable
Academic counselors or transfer center advisors at the receiving institution
Students who participate in Dual Enrollment earn an official college transcript and college units. These college units become part of the student’s permanent postsecondary academic record.
While many colleges treat Dual Enrollment students as first-time freshmen for admission and financial aid purposes, some colleges and universities — particularly private institutions and certain out-of-state schools — may classify students differently based on the number of college units earned, the term taken, or institutional policy.
As a result, Dual Enrollment coursework may affect a student’s future financial aid eligibility, including but not limited to:
Institutional merit scholarships
First-time freshman scholarship programs
Honors college eligibility
Maximum Time Frame / Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) calculations
Federal Pell Grant lifetime eligibility (600% limit)
State aid eligibility such as Cal Grant
Additionally, college grades earned through Dual Enrollment are calculated into a student’s cumulative college GPA. Poor academic performance or course withdrawals may impact a student’s academic standing at the college issuing the transcript and could affect future financial aid eligibility at another institution.
Opportunities For Learning & Options For Youth does not determine financial aid eligibility and cannot guarantee that Dual Enrollment participation will not impact future aid awards. Students and families are strongly encouraged to contact the financial aid office of prospective colleges prior to enrollment in a Dual Enrollment course to understand potential impacts.
Enrollment in a Dual Enrollment course indicates acknowledgement and acceptance of these terms.
