The North Country Federal Credit Union building has changed over time because of changes to its name and structure. For example, the credit union building has had many different names: Central Savings Bank and Trust Company, The Howard National Bank, TD Bank, and NCFCU, which is the business that is in the building today. In 1905 the Trust Company was established and in 1963 The Howard National Bank was established. Another type of change is that there used to be a library above the Central Savings Bank in 1914, but it is not there anymore. Another example of structure has changed is the inside because the lobby today is very different from the pictures of the old lobby in the Howard National Bank. This is how North Country Credit Union has changed over time.
1820- Barton Landing was established
1905- In 1905 the building became the home of the newly organized Central Savings Bank and Trust Company.
1908- Barton Landing changed its name to Orleans.
1913- The building was moved closer to the Main Street Bridge, so they could have more room for a new building behind it.
1927- A huge catastrophe in the village occurs due to a massive flood. This flood impacted more than just the bank. It impacted the whole state!
1950- In the morning of September 27 in the year 1950, a fire broke out in the village. The buildings that housed the Post Office, Standard’s Store, Sylvester’s Barbershop, and five families' homes were impacted. The fire broke through the roof and completely destroyed the bank building too.
1963-1965- In 1963 the Howard National Bank became the new owners of the building and continued to own it through to the 1990's.
2010's- TD Bank leaves the building vacant briefly before North Country Federal Credit Union moves in.
2020- Orleans celebrates its bicentennial.
This was the original lobby inside the Howard National Bank. The lobby has since been remodeled because the bank building was updated.
