Created by 5th and 6th grade students at Orleans Elementary School in 2018-2019 with the support of their Humanities teachers, Andrea Gratton and Kyle Chadburn, the Orleans Landmark Project's "living museum" is designed to provide an interactive tour through the history of the village of Orleans, which was originally established under the name "Barton Landing" in 1820. Each page of this website provides a brief history of an important landmark from the village's past and present, accompanied by timelines, photographs, news clippings, and more!
As we continue to learn more about these landmarks, the website will continue to grow, making it a "living" document that can be updated and revised with new information as it becomes available. We also hope to include additional landmarks that we were unable to include in this first iteration of the project.
We hope that this project will become an opportunity to collaborate with our community! We welcome you to share any information, photographs, or other artifacts that might help us improve our work. If we work together, we can curate a truly comprehensive history of Orleans!
Our final goal in creating this project is to celebrate Orleans as it reaches its bicentennial year in 2020. We hope that this museum project will help locals and tourists better understand what makes Orleans such a special place, and that people will use the website we've created to help them celebrate the bicentennial.
